As we move out of the worst recession of our lifetimes, it is time to positively turn our focus toward the future. For some 8 years I have been returning to Australia to conduct (at their request) what they have called a “Refresher Course”. The objectives have been:
- To bring all of them up to speed on TBL systems enhancements/improvements (incorporating delegation & technology) that have been added since the days they took the Comprehensive Series course (there are always MANY)
- To provide our current protocols with time to discuss the implications on staffing, scheduling, productivity, and profitability (and there are numerous technologies we have added in the last 2 years that will make a HUGE positive impact on your practice that we want to share with you).
- Most importantly (these are their words) “to give them a kick in the arse” on things they have not yet implemented or fallen out of the habit of doing.
- To re-energize them.
- To ensure that they don’t take their practices in some strange new direction without guidance (i.e. keep them “focused on their vision”)…especially when experts are advising us to lower our prices and pump up the volume.
Turnover is an inevitable fact of life. The objective of including staff is to get new team members on board with the TBL philosophy (and their role in creating it) and to re-energize older team members who may have lost their way or their enthusiasm. A doctor and staff meeting in a fun location can also form the basis for a terrific “reward program” to focus on as we all pull out of 3 long years of orthodontic recession. Our goal is to tune up our TBL practices to be the high performance practices of the future!
